Some may ask, “What is wrong with TV & video games?”. The answer is…nothing! :) TV & video games are great in small measure. However, lots can be learned from going without TV & video games. Sometimes, we find we are more creative, spend more time talking to the ones we love & do more active things which are good for our health. Also, spending too much time watching certain television shows or video games can make us sad or anxious. Getting active & getting some fresh air can improve our mood and our health! Ahh!  So, take our unplugged challenge. Can you go for 7 days without television or video games? Here are some fun ideas to do instead of watch TV or play video games. Unplug!   1. Put on some music & dance
  2. Write a poem
  3. Make a fort in your living room or outside
  4. Make pottery out of clay or mud
  5. Find out how full the moon is & track it for a few days. Check out this link   http://www.calculatorcat.com/moon_phase/phasenow.php
  6. Make some cookies
  7. Make snow ice cream (recipe)
  8. Make a mobile out of things you find outside.  Hang them from strings on a hanger
  9. Make your own chewing gum!  This is fun & yummy.  www.gleegum.com
  10. Clean your room.  EEK! Better move on to #11!
  11. Cover a pine cone with peanut butter, roll it in bird seed & hang it in a tree.  Watch which birds find your feeder.
  12. Go for a bike ride with a family member
  13. Roller skate
  14. Play Monopoly
  15. Phone a friend
  16. Go for a walk
  17. Write a story
  18. Look up a couple of easy yoga moves & try them out.  Get a family member to join you.
  19. Give your dog a belly rub
  20. After a rain, go see how many worms you can find.
  21. Karaoke
  22. Learn a magic trick & show your family member
  23. Draw a family member a card, thanking them for something they have done
  24. Paint a watercolor picture.
  25. Make paperdolls out of the models in catalogs for clothes.
  26. Style your hair into weird hairdos.
  27. Read a book
  28. Swing!  My favorite!
  29. Jump rope
  30. Ask a family member to take you ice skating.
  31. Go count how many things are under your bed.  wow!  When was the last time you checked?
  32. Play UNO
  33. Ask a family member to take you canoeing or kayaking or paddle boating
  34. Go camping!
  35. Paint your toenails all different colors
  36. Go fishing
  37. Go find some rocks & paint them to look like ladybugs or other bugs.
  38. Lay on a blanket & see what shapes you can find in the clouds.
  39. Look up what poison ivy and other itch plants look like & try to identify them so you can avoid them.
  40. Rake a pile of leaves & jump in them.
  41. Ask a family member what their favorite thing to do was when they were your age.  Do it together!
  42. Make cards for people in nursing homes.
  43. Make a cat toy for an animal shelter
  44. Decorate a jar to save your change in…then donate it to your favorite cause.
  45. Go see a play
  46. Better yet, make up your own play & perform it for your family
  47. Plant some seeds.
  48. Take some pictures of your family & make a scrapbook.
  49. Make a collage out of old magazines.
  50. Do origami
  51. Fly a kite
  52. Make a sandcastle
  53. Make a friendship bracelet
  54. Play charades
  55. Clean out your sock drawer…(NOoooo!) Move on to…#56
  56. Play Simon Says
  57. Make a Gods Eye
  58. Make an ornament
  59. Practice skipping rocks..my second favorite thing!
  60. Learn to do a square knot
  61. Listen to a new kind of music
  62. Be a reporter..interview someone in your family or town
  63. Visit a kids museum

  67. Go to a swimming pool
  68. Plan & cook supper with your family member

  70. Play with dolls
  71. Make a poster for your room & hang it up.

  74. Take pictures of your family making funny faces.
  75. Make s’mores
  76. Play drums on a variety of containers
  77. Make your own playdough
  78. See if you can find the Big Dipper in the night sky
  79. Can you find the North star?
  80. Play pirates
  81. Learn a new card game
  82. Do a crossword puzzle
  83. Play I Spy
  84. Walk around your neighborhood & try to find 5 things you never noticed before
  85. Play marbles
  86. Play jacks
  87. Have a campout in your living room
  88. Pretend you are going on vacation & pack a suitcase.
  89. Put a piece of candy in an open area & watch how fast the ants will find it.  (If you live in an area with fire ants…skip this one)
  90. Set up an obstacle course with friends.
  91. Play catch
  92. Play SPUD
  93. Plan & go for a hike with a family member
  94. Make a candy campfire
  95. Make a potion.
  96. Make a snack for your family, like ants on a log
  97. Make a comic book
  98. Learn some jokes & tell your family
  99. Start a rock collection
  100. Make a first aid kit
  101. Go geocaching
  102. Dress up like a princess and take pictures of yourself (Slug, age 7)
  103. Pretend like all carpeting is hot lava.  Use rugs, carpet squares and furniture to move around the house.  If you hit the carpeting, you are in the hot lava (JJ, age 10)

Also, some television and video games can make us make us sad or anxious. Getting active & getting some fresh air can improve our mood and our health! So, take our unplugged challenge. Can you go for 7 days without TV or video games?

Criteria:
1. Make a 7 day plan for your unplugged survivor week!. Feel free to use our 101 Things to do instead of watch TV list.
2. After you complete 7 days without TV or video games, send us a picture or note about your favorite activity and one thing you learned to campgirlz777@gmail.com.
